The Obama Factor continues to be defined as the Bahamas seek new economic ties with Cuba.

Cuba on the economic radar
A changing of the guards in the White House has likely freed this country to strengthen economic ties with its neighbor to the west, with Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham readying to go to a summit hosted by communist Cuba and largely focused on economic issues.
The event is set to see all 15 of the CARICOM member states come together to discuss high food and energy costs, the global financial crisis and global warming.
Our participation may represent a significant step forward for The Bahamas in growing its economic ties with Cuba, even as U.S. president-elect Barack Obama is expected to mend fences there as well.
It would be a new stance for a government that has been accused of pressuring regional economies to keep the communist country at arms length.
Cuba has nonetheless managed to maintain good relations with most members of CARICOM. It's a relationship that largely stems from its medical and education aid contributions, which a number of Bahamians patients and students have benefited from.
Ingraham and a delegation of Bahamian officials are expected to contribute to the summit centered around finding the best way for small island nations to cope with the global economic decline.
