Brazil proposes to reinforce integration of L America, Caribbean

The Summit on Integration and Development of Latin America and the Caribbean (CALC) will provide a good opportunity for the advance of regional integration, said the Brazilian Foreign Ministry in a statement released on Sunday.
The summit will be held in Sauipe Coast of Brazil on Dec. 16-17,attended by 33 heads of state and government from the region.
"The completion of the summit reflects the firm conviction of our countries that the deepening of dialogue and regional cooperation is essential for a better integration of our region in the current international system," said the statement.
The meeting should focus on issues relating to integration and cooperation for a sustainable development of the region amidst the current financial crisis, as well as energy cooperation, food security and climate change, according to the statement.
In addition, the Brazilian government hopes that the summit will contribute to strengthening various regional initiatives and the existing sub-regional integration mechanism, while reaffirming that priorities should be given to economic and social development.
