.September is a relatively quiet month in the Caribbean, but there are still a handful of moderately high-profile events going on, including a pair of famous fishing tournaments in Jamaica.

2© Aruba Cas di CulturaSoca, reggae and even jazz have long been associated with the Caribbean, but the organizers of the annual Aruba Piano Festival want you to know that there's a place in the islands for chamber music, too. The week-long festival includes recitals, classes and competitions -- some free, some for a fee -- mostly at the Cas di Cultura but also in some smaller venues, as well.

.• Jamaica International Marlin Tournaments4
Both Port Antonio -- the birthplace of blue marlin sports fishing -- and Montego Bay host international marlin tournaments during the month of October. Both cities have held their respective fishing tournaments for more than 40 years, and the Port Antonio contest is the oldest in the Caribbean. In addition to fishing by local and international competitors, there are parties and receptions that make these tournaments a heritage highlight.

Martinique's Journées du Patrimoine -- a celebration of local heritage and culture -- is celebrated each September with museum open houses, storytelling, lectures and workshops on local crafts, clothing, and more.
